Foreign Direct Investment and Balance of Payments Statistics in 2000 in Belarus
The paper analyses foreign direct investment (FDI) per capita in European transition economies in 1990-2000. It is argued that countries with higher FDI demonstrate the high-est rates of economic growth. The paper also discusses the problems of Belarusian balance of payments statistics. It is shown that inexact assessments of FDI inflow to Belarusian economy in 1997-1999 led to distortions of foreign trade statistics and incorrect conclu-sions concerning position of Belarus in cumulative FDI inflow per capita among transition economies in 2000.
