Seminar "Economic Environment in Belarus: opportunities and threats for business. Develoment forecast for 2012" was held by IPM Business school, IPM Research Center and UNITER Investment Company on April 17, 2012. Pavel Daneyko, director of the IPM Business School, was a moderator of the event.
The seminar addressed challenges and threats faced by the Belarusian economy, as well as the possible ways of dealing with them. In particular, there were discussed such issues as the instability of the world economy, balance of payments problems and the increasing external debt of Belarus, inflationary expectations and the decrease of domestic demand. Business environment depends greatly on these factors.
Leading researcher and former president of CASE Marek Dabrowski analyzed another round of global financial crisis and its implications for the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The economic environment in Belarus was discussed by Alexander Chubrik, director of IPM Research Center, who had analyzed medium-term macroeconims trends and presented several scenarios for the economic development of Belarus. More detailed information about the possible directions for economic policy was provided by Anton Dolgovechny, Head of the Macroeconomic Analysis and Forecast Department in the Ministry of Economy of Belarus. Dr Irina Tochitskaya, Academic Director of the IPM Research Center, raised a question concerning the consequences of Russia's accession to WTO for Belarus. Besides that, Roman Osipov, director of UNITER Investment Company explained the main trends in privatization sphere. Gleb Shymanovich, economist of the IPM Research Center analyzed the impact of the crisis in 2011 on the income and expenditures of Belarusian households.
